High School English

I read alot, I always have. I read anything with words on a page. Occasionally I read stuff with pictures. I also read The Atomic Nerds. Today Stingray talks about high school and running into people that you knew. Trust me, being a thousand miles from where you went to High School is an advantage. I no longer have to worry about having a reunion in Wal-Mart.

For my Sophomore and Senior year I had the same teacher for honor english. Did I mention that I read alot? This included in the classroom. She would hand out assignments, I would be the first to complete it. Not being one to idly waste time I would pull out my book and start to read. Soon the class discussion would start. I continued to read. English teachers are smart, and they think alot. This particular one thought to herself, "If I call on Sigboy while he is reading, he won't know what is going on in the discussion, and will be embarrassed enough to pay attention." Did her plan work as expected? Of course not, I'm smarter than that. When called upon I would put down my book, answer the question, take the discussion to the next level, and calmly pick my book back up. Apparently this annoyed her, alot. She told me this after graduation, and I calmly went back to reading my book.

Confidential Corporate Convention Completed

And I find myself spending my last hotel room night for at least 4 days, and hopefully more than a week. I cant talk much about what happened, but I can remark about two things. 1) I have more support than I had a week ago, down side is, I also now have more responsibility. 2) I am now qualified as a certified hazardous material and rollover response team leader. This also means more responsibility, but it's kinda cool.

800 Miles Later

Actually over a thousand. I drove 120 miles south on Saturday and acquired 200 CCI large rifle benchrest primers, at the outrageous price of 6.95 per hundred. And 800 miles north of home I happen to find one pound of the highly prized powder, IMR 4064.

When I get home, I believe I have plans.

Buckshot Patterns

Last weekend found me at a friends ranch. Much shooting was accomplished, to include patterning buckshot loads for my home defense 870. Here is the winning load:

Federal low recoil, 2 3/4, 9 pellet, 00 buck.

I am very impressed with this Federal load. I did not pattern at 25, but I am positive that it will stay on a silhouette target.

Something seems to be off on my shotgun. I adjusted the sights on my shotgun, they seem to be off to the left. I don't think it's the load as both the slugs and the buck seem to be off the same amount. I took off the barrel and reseated it, same point of impact. Slightly odd, but it hits to the sights.

My New(est) Muse

Bloggging has been light (obviously). I have even considered asking the wife for a new muse. Upon reflection, and a dash of self preservation, I didn't. The real world has been catching up with me and I have let my blog suffer because of it. But, you don't come hear to listen to me whine.
Do to budget constraints i have had to cancel my California deer/pig hunt. I had planed to hunt some public ground here in Texas, and even had a half-assed plan. Today that all changed. I received some credible intelligence that large deer are to be found at the umppf humpf canyon in the censored State Park. I have also been told that people will be at a minimum because of the amount of walking perilous journey involved in getting there. I smell a death march in my future!

So I will have a few days out in the Texas heat and mosquito's. I also have an invite to go shoot prairie dogs!

Mrs. Sigboy will be very pleased that my new muse has antlers instead of horns.

Quote if the Day: Albert Rasch Edition

The Rasch Outdoor Chronicles: Instincts and Hunting: "For me it all boils down to this: I am a hunter. I am driven by a passion greater than that of those around me because I acknowledge and accept that which nature bestowed upon me. As long as I treat nature and her gift to me with respect, I will continue to be whole... and human."

Stealing a MeMe

First, I apologize about the lack of contact. It's not a lack of material, it is a lack of time. Expect most of July to be this way.

So my Internet friend New Jovian Thunderbolt, has a post about what makes a gun nut

I will preface with this pearl of wisdom. If your gunsmith calls with a awesome deal, on you significant others birthday, and you tell them that the new plasma TV is going to have to wait, you might be a gun nut.

If you got more handguns than you got hands, you are a gun nut.
Check
If you have 2 rifles that do the same thing (2 semi-auto .22s, 2 lever action .30-30s, 2 M1 Garands), and you didn't accidentally inherit one of them through no fault of your own, you are a gun nut.
Do the guns for the kids count?
If you have 4 or more rifles that do differents things, you are a gun nut.
Define 'different', but probably a yes.
If you have a rifle that takes an ammo type you can't find after checking 3 randome gun stores in a normal ammo market (not today's market, but what we had this time last year), you are a gun nut. (I mean, how much Arisaka ammo is there our there? It can be found, yes, but it's not always out there.)
Four words: three five seven maximum and/or 338/06
If you know what a tround is, you are a gun nut..
I wiki'd it, thats kinda cool
If you conceal carry, but have one gun you carry during the week, and another gun you carry for special occasions like wedding, graduations, and church services, you are a gun nut. (there are plenty of CCW people out there that aren't gun nuts, and carry because they have been threatened specifically.)
The wife says no to a 'BBQ gun'
If you became a member of the NRA or other pro-civil-rights org. because some anti-gun politician of famous person annoyed you, you are a gun nut.
Check
If you read gun blogs more than twice a week for 6 weeks, you are on your way to being a gun nut.
I WRITE a gun blog more than twice a week(generaly), for more than six weeks.
If you have gone to more than one gun show, paying your own way, since the creation of the term 'gun show loophole,' but disagree with the statment 'no man should have a gun smaller than a canned ham,' you are a gun nut.
Gun shows are family activities, like movies, and going out to dinner.
If you become aware of an associate of good character that took a concealed loaded gun to a public place like a Mall or parade and your thought wasn't 'oh my! oh no! someone could have been hurt accidentally!' but rather, 'good move. you never can tell,' you are a gun nut.
My first thought after getting out of the car yesterday was 'Why is there a gun in my pocket?'
If any part of the speech fragment 'small town, bitter people clinging to their guns and religion and their antipathy to people not like them,' annoys you, but especially gun part, you are a gun nut.
Check, check, check, check and mate

So what is the verdict? What makes you a gun nut? And if you aren't a gun nut, why not?
